A Student's Story

I'm one of those people that have known pretty much my entire life that I wanted to be an attorney. My mom took me to the movies when I was six, and I watched Legally Blonde. And Legally Blonde taught me that you could be a woman who is both beautiful and smart. You didn't have to choose.

I wanted to come to law school because I knew I had to advocate for my community and for communities similar to mine. And I'm so excited that I've really cultivated that experience because I'm almost madder than ever than I've ever I'm like, "Yes, let's get them!" Because now I have the tools that I need to advocate and not just the passion.

And so coming to Southwestern, I concentrate in criminal law and in public interest law. It gives me an opportunity to explore the criminal justice system, but from that nonprofit side and further feeds my passion. And that's the great thing about Southwestern, there's a little bit of everything. There's a place for everyone.

I went to one of those all-law school university days, and I met our Dean of Admissions. She told me that I would be supported and that I would have a community that felt like family. To this day, that has been very true. Yeah, it's been very true.

Southwestern has been a family for me. People saw me as a leader when I never saw myself as one, you know? And this school really made me feel like I could do it. So I came here because I was convinced that I would find family and I genuinely have. I have and I feel it every time I interact with anybody.
