      Career Services Office

The Career Services Office (“CSO”) partners with students and alumni on all aspects of their career development through individual career counseling, specialized programming, and extensive resources. The CSO sponsors a variety of recruitment programs, networking events, and other initiatives to connect students with private, public, and judicial sector employers. We educate students and alumni on personal and skills-based self-assessment, developing effective job search campaigns and strategies, workplace professionalism, and the diverse range of career opportunities available to those with legal education and training.

Our career advisors come from a variety of legal backgrounds, with professional experience ranging from private practice to public interest and government, to academia and nonprofit organizations. We encourage students to maintain regular contact and take advantage of access to their individual career advisor for job search strategy sessions, resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, or simply for encouragement and advice.

The Career Services Office which we know here on campus, as the, "CSO" is extremely active throughout the years that you're here on campus.

The Career Services Office will help you do interview preparation. But they also got to know us individually so that they would look out for jobs that might speak to something we wanted to do. I was able to secure a family law externship my first summer.

I was able to secure with them an EEOC position with a federal judge my second summer and they were instrumental in helping me find post-bar employment, which is a two-year fellowship as a Housing Justice Fellow at Inner City Law Center doing tenant defense work in trial.

Networking with other law clerks, in different courts and with different judge's chambers really made me confident that it's something that I can do, as well as the Career Services Office were there to help me throughout the process of, you know, reviewing my application materials, making sure that all my application materials were polished. Because these judicial clerkships are so competitive.

The Career Services Office was instrumental in me landing my judicial clerkship following graduation and I likely could not have done it without their support and help throughout the process.

My Career Services Advisor actually used to work at Southwestern as one of the faculty, and she taught my current boss and so she told me, "Hey, I have a former student, and they just started their own private employment firm. I know you're interested in that. Would you mind if I passed your resume along to him?" I said, "Yes, of course. Please do it!" She passed it along and within two days, I was already in signing paperwork. It was unreal.
